Ansel Elgort and Violetta Komyshan met when they were teenagers and have been dated on and off for more than a decade."I was with my friend, and he was walking down the block. The twosome started dating at the end of Komyshan’s sophom*ore year at LaGuardia High School in New York.

Us reported in August 2014 that the actor, who was 20 at the time, pulled the plug on their relationship due to his busy schedule.

By January, the pair were back together. "They just missed each other," a source told Us at the time. "He thought his schedule was too much to have a girlfriend during, he's been touring nonstop for movies and working on music, but they talked throughout.”

The couple proved to be going strong in 2017, with Komyshan appearing in Elgort’s music video his song “Thief” and attending the premiere of his movie Baby Driver in June.

The twosome walked the carpet together at the 90th Academy Awards in March 2018.

Elgort made headlines in fall 2019 when he told The Sunday Times that he’d “like to find a lot more love” in the next five years.

“It doesn’t need to be sexual. I could be done sexually with my girlfriend,” he said at the time. “I think we’ve been pretty clear that I want to feel free to fall in love with people and that [option] should be open, but sexually it can be closed off.”

The actor was in the press again when his West Side Story star Rachel Zegler temporarily quit Twitter over his fans accusing the actress of coming between Elgort and Komyshan.

“The DMs and the name-calling and throwing around the word homewrecker over me expressing genuine love i have for my coworker is heartbreaking and i don’t want any part of it. So peace for now, i guess. Be nice,” she wrote in October 2019.

In June 2020, Elgort spoke out after he was accused of sexual assault stemming from an alleged 2014 encounter with a 17-year-old fan.

“I cannot claim to understand Gabby’s feelings but her description of events is simply not what happened. I have never and would never assault anyone. What is true is that in New York in 2014, when I was 20, Gabby and I had a brief, legal and entirely consensual relationship,” he said via Instagram at the time. “Unfortunately, I did not handle the breakup well. I stopped responding to her, which is an immature and cruel thing to do to someone. I know this belated apology does not absolve me of my unacceptable behavior when I disappeared. As I look back at my attitude, I am disgusted and deeply ashamed of the way I acted. I am truly sorry. I know I must continue to reflect, learn, and work to grow in empathy.”

After Komyshan appeared to delete several snaps of Elgort from her social media pages following the allegations, she sparked rumors that the twosome called it quits. The breakup speculation continued into 2021 as the pair weren’t spotted together for months.

Elgort and Komyshan confirmed they were still together when she attended the premiere of West Side Story with him in November 2021.

Elgort serenaded Komyshan for her birthday in January 2022, singing to her and playing the piano at New York City hotspot The Nines.

Komyshan confirmed that she and Elgort called it quits, describing herself as "single" in a November interview with E! News. "I think it's fun," she added when asked how she's adjusting to single life. "I'm 26, so right now is the age to push ahead and focus on that — on yourself."
